Two Months to IMAGINARY GIRLS? Time for a Bookmark & ARC Giveaway!

Imaginary Girls comes out in the US and Canada on June 14, exactly two months from today! Since this book means pretty much everything to me—and surely you’ve heard me talk about it often enough and you’re like yeah, yeah, yeah, is your book out already?—I wanted to celebrate getting that much closer to publication by doing something special. While this may involve some Pinkberry frozen yogurt with blueberries and raspberries and strawberries on top and dancing around the living room, I also want to share my excitement with you. You’re welcome to dance around your own living room, but sending Pinkberry in the mail is not feasible—it would melt.

So… I have these:

(I lost my digital camera... so please excuse the slight blurriness to all these photos.)

Bookmarks! They’re nice and pretty and glossy in person.

I also have this:

(I havent signed this ARC yet, but I will, if you want me to.)

That’s my *very last* ARC (advance reading copy) that I have to give away. The last one.

And you can have it.

I will be choosing ONE WINNER to get a signed Imaginary Girls ARC as well as a few bookmarks (signed if you want ‘em signed).

I will be choosing TWENTY WINNERS to get Imaginary Girls bookmarks (signed if you want ‘em signed).

So if twenty-one people enter? Twenty-one people win!

(No, I am not giving away the Rolleiflex camera in the background of the above photo. It was my grandfathers!)

Want some enticement? Here’s what Publishers Weekly said about Imaginary Girls:

“A surreal and dreamy world where magical thinking is carried to a chilling extreme. Suma uses the story’s supernatural horror movie–ready elements in the best of ways; beneath all the strangeness lies beauty, along with a powerful statement about the devotion between sisters.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Intrigued? I hope you’ll enter.

Please note: This giveaway is open in the US and Canada only. But international readers, please keep reading.

Here’s how to enter, it’s pretty simple:

  1. Leave a comment on this blog post. That’s it!
  2. Really, that’s all you need to do.
  3. But—BUT this is important—please enter your email address in the comment form where it says “Email.” It’s private and only I will see it. That’s just so I can get a hold of you to ask for your mailing address if you won!

Oh but wait. Here’s how you can get extra chances to win:

  1. Do you have a sister? Since Imaginary Girls is all about sisters, if you have a sister you get twice the chance to win! Just tell me in your comment that you have a sister and I will count your entry two times. (And, sure, I guess everyone could start inventing imaginary sisters, but I am choosing to trust you on this one.)
  2. You can also enter to win a bookmark on Facebook—and that is open internationally. (Limit to two international winners.) Just go to my author page, click “like,” and leave a comment on this photo (or on the wall—I’ll count comments from anywhere) telling me that you want a bookmark. I’ll be choosing 10 more bookmark winners from Facebook in addition to the 20 bookmark winners I’m choosing here.
  3. And finally, I’ll randomly—at my whim, i.e., whenever I feel like it—give away even more bookmarks on Twitter, so you may want to follow me there because who knows when I’ll decide to do that. Maybe soon.

That’s it. Want a bookmark? Want my last ARC? Leave a comment on this post and you’re entered.

(I’m closing this giveaway on Monday, April 18 at 11:59 p.m. EST and I’ll announce the winners the next day.)

  1. Oooh fingers tightly crossed here!!! I really can’t wait to read this book!

Oh and I have a sister – i knew she’d be useful one day ;)

  2. No way I’d miss out on this! Have been enjoying your blog and tweets – good luck with the release! (I have no sisters, only two brothers. But I *am* a sister – does that count??) ;-)

  3. Well, only one ARC left? I’m putting this out there to you (and the Universe) and I’m pretty sure that my desire for this book is strong enough to be able to shift the planets! Congrats on your upcoming release of “Imaginary Girls!” ANd for the record, I have a big sister. She was mean to me when I was little and even tried to get me to eat a poisonous plant. (Actually, come to think of it, she is still sort of mean to me.)

  4. I DO really and truly have a sister! In fact, I have 2 of them! Thanks for the entries Nova. I CANNOT WAIT to read this book!

  5. I want to win! I am a little sad, however, to be taken right back to my childhood when I felt so frustrated to have two older brothers but no sister. But I did volunteer as a big sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and still see my “little sister” to this day….that should count, right?

Good luck to everyone but especially to me! ;)

  6. Thanks so much for this giveaway! I would love to win either a bookmark or an ARC and bookmark.

I don’t have a blood sister but I do have a stepsister and a best friend who was there the day I was born and who I’ve been friends with all my life. Do either of those count?

    My email is Amberinblunderland@yahoo.com.

  7. i have to admit, the premise of this book scares me a little, yes i’m a wimp, but i will be brave and soldier on! and read this only during the daylight hours… maybe you should hold my hand?

also, i have TWO sisters — an older and a younger — but really, it’s my brother who’s the champ. three younger sisters? bless him.

  8. I would love to be entered to win! I’m so excited for this book!

    I have a younger sister. :)

  9. Very, very excited for you, and I’d love to have your ARC! I’m one of those people who doesn’t have a sister, but I chose a sister from my group of friends years ago and we’re as close as sisters could be. ;)

  10. I am so excited to read Imaginary Girls!! The cover alone makes me so curious and captivated. I have so much fun reading your blog as well, especially since I aspire to be a published author myself one day. Thank you so much for doing this giveaway! :)

  11. Yay! The bookmarks are super nice too. I have a sister-in-law..does that count? She’s awesome. She does roller derby.

  12. OMG I have everything crossed, that ARC looks beautiful. I hope with of my strength I win the ARC.
Sadly I don’t have sister, only 2 brothers but I’m a sister lol does that count? ;)

  13. I would love to win, too! I can’t wait to read “Imaginary Girls.” It’s one of my most-anticipated upcoming books!

I do have a sister. She’s about five years younger than me. :)

  14. Hi, would love to win :) Can’t wait to read your book. I have a sister, Brandy, who’s 3 years and one week younger then me (which always made birthdays interesting)

  15. You see, it was your enticement that won me, not the offer of free stuff. Really. I swear. If you hadn’t included that … No, actually, it was Imaginary Girls that won me, and also, the cover art is spectacular, I think.

As it happens, I do have a sister. She’s five years younger than me & infinitely more awesome at 18 than I was. She’s also very real. I’ll see if she’ll come leave you a comment. Her name is Kendra & she goes by Kenzie.

Congratulations on your YA debut! I will definitely be looking for this in stores come June if I don’t win the ARC (but I would gladly be one of the 20 that won a bookmark!).

  16. Ooooo! I would love, love, love to win! My sister is three years younger than me, and my absolute bestie (I even named one of my daughters for her). We made a great team facing our two big brothers as kids, and though she lives halfway across the country now, we are still taking on the world together!

I canNOT wait to read this book!

  17. Oh, hey, I have a sister! She’s three comments ahead of me (Bailey Kelsey).
She’s my role model. If I’m awesome, it’s only because I followed in her footsteps.

I’ll be looking for this book in stores!

  18. I would love to enter! I don’t have a sister (only child), but my best friend is like my sister – our mothers worked together and were pregnant at the same time :P

  19. I can’t wait to read your book! The bookmarks are so beautiful, I would love one! Of course know I have my sweet sister Aimee <3

  20. A chance to win a coveted ARC! Woo hoo! My baby sister is 6 years younger than me … we’re about as different as day and night, but there’s still an indescribable bond there!

  21. I don’t think I can describe how excited I am about this book. There’s something about it that just sounds so compelling. It’s one of those upcoming books that’s slowly picking away at my brain whenever I see the cover.

And I have a sister, a weird enviro-science nerd sister, but she’s still my sister. ;)

  22. Oh how exciting! Your book looks amazing! :) I’ve been seeing it around and keep getting more and more excited! :) And who doesn’t love bookmarks that match your books?! :) Best thing ever!

And, I totally have a sister! She’s 2 yrs & 7 months older than me, to the day! And, while growing up I definitely wished she were imaginary, she is most definitely real! :) She’s my best friend now.

  23. I would love to be entered, but only for the signed bookmarks because I already received an ARC of Imaginary Girls. I have one older sister who I use to think was nothing like me, but then we both got older, LOL. Thanks Nova!

  24. Wow, thank you so much for the giveaway! This book has been on my wishlist from the very first moment I laid eyes on its gorgeous, little cover. I’d probably faint right away if I got an ARC copy :) Unfortunately, I am sisterless. I’ve had to deal with three overprotective, macho brothers my entire life. I think that fact alone should be extra-entry worthy! If you knew them, you would understand ;)

Thanks again for the giveaway, and congratulations on your book!

  25. Oooh, I would LOVE to win, even just a bookmark! I actually have TWO sisters..does that count as two more entries? ;)

    -Maddz

  26. Oh, man, drooling over that last ARC. And the bookmarks are lovely too. I have five sisters. Yes, I really do. (and six brothers) Actually, my mom is the one who deserves to win something. :)

  27. I have a sister!! She’s two years older than me and so pretty. I love her to pieces and would do anything for her, even though she once pinned me to the ground and ripped the jeans right off me in front of the whole neighborhood because they were hers and I hadn’t asked permission. Still the best sister ever.

  28. Finally, finally, finally!!! I have been waiting forever for this book. I’m so excited! Please choose me.

I have one sister. She’s had a really rough year, and I don’t see her much. She’s sad and hiding and hating herself a lot. I wish she’d let me in. So maybe if she won’t share the hurt with me, we could at least share your book. I miss her.

  29. I have two sisters! And one of them has a daughter that will be getting a copy of this book!

  30. Curses! More than 20 people have already entered!

I don’t have a sister, but I DO have a sister-in-law, and I AM a sister, so does that count? *waggly eyebrows*

  31. Oh! I have a sister! She’s three years younger than I am, three times cooler than I am, and not at all imaginary. Although when we were kids there were times when I wished she was so I could imagine her away.

  32. I’m looking forward to this book! I also have two of the best sisters in the world! I am the youngest so we used to torture each other (or, I used to torture them) but they mean the world to me and are my role models. I hope that one day I will be just like them. :)

  33. Please count me in–I’d love a chance to win!

I have a sister! We actually only met two years ago. She spent most of her life looking for me and I didn’t even know she existed! When I discovered her name, I googled and found a post on an ancestry site where she was looking for her sister “Rose” and gave all the info about our dad. I had found her in all of 2 minutes! But, it took her several months to see my response to her post though. And get this–we only lived 5 miles apart and even knew some of the same people. So i’m the luckiest girl ever to now have a wonderful sister, even though it sounds like a Maury show!

BTW, i’m not making this up just to say I have a sister :) You can see our posts when we found each other! http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.kinsinger/35/mb.ashx

  34. I’m really excited to go into a bookstore on June 14th to buy this book. But I’m also excited to read it and certainly wouldn’t mind getting it early. And of course you know I have a sister.

  35. I have two sisters. My older sister, Amber, is 5 years older than me, and my younger sister (well, she’s technically my half-sister, but she’s my real sister to me), Mackenzie, is almost 10 years younger than me. I love them lots!

    Does that count double? :)

  36. I cannot wait to read this book.

I have a sister and two pretty awesome step-sisters.

  37. This is a book I’m dying to read. I love the cover, and funny fact? My (step)sister’s nickname is Ruby. If she liked reading, I would shove this book at her.

Thank you for the giveaway! I actually have two stepsisters, both whom I love. :)

  38. Me! Me! Me! There’s only one of me, but I jumped three times with my hands in the air, thus three Me’s! And I got a sistah…from another mistah’. Not really, she’s from the same mistah as me. I’d love an ARC and I already entered the bookmark contest on FB, so I think I’m covered. Oh, wait

  39. I don’t have a sister by blood, but I was lucky enough to find the sister the universe forgot. We finish each other’s sentences, like most of the same stuff, and even look freakishly alike because we come from the same stock. She’s over a thousand miles away and I miss her like crazy, so we talk every day through the computer (God bless technology)

And I have been so insanely curious about your book, seeing as it seems like everyone who’s gotten an ARC has absolutely raved about it. Thanks for the contest!
    ~Dot

  40. I’ve preordered but that just means that if I win I have a copy for my sister… or for my best friend and her daughters to share… I can’t wait for my girls to be old enough for share my currenet reds with!

  41. Dang! I don’t have a sister, but I *am* a sister… with two brothers. =(

BUT. As you know I am CRAZY FREAKING EXCITED for this book!!!!! =D

  42. Yay thanks for the giveaway! I actually have 2 sisters, with whom we all review books! Love love love anything with sisters!!!

  43. I would be honored to win the ARC of your book, and pleased to have a bookmark. I have a sister (5 years younger). She wishes I were imaginary.

  44. Looking forward to reading this, and I do so enjoy seeing your delight in it.

As for sisters, ours were friends before you and I ever met!

  45. I’m in!

I always wanted a sister because I was sure a sister wouldn’t spend her time catching garter snakes and chucking cans at baby skunks – unlike my two brothers.

  46. Oh! Your cover is so beautiful. A bookmark would be lovely! (And that ARC would be a DREAM.)

I have a little sister. She’s simultaneously the most loved & most annoying girl in my life.

  47. Nova, I am SO excited to read this! If I don’t win, I will be pre-ordering this on my Kindle for the account my sister and I share so we can both start reading the day it comes out!

  48. Thanks for the contest! Imaginary Girls sounds really good so I’d love to win :)

Also I have two younger sisters. They’re only one year apart from each other so sometimes it feels like I’m the odd person out.

  49. I’d love a chance to win a book (your book no less, Imaginary Girls) written in English by a blogger here on WordPress. See my reading materials (books) are very limited to me, I live on top of a mountain is the smallest of towns. The next biggest town is 40-mins away. They have two small book stores and their selection (if that) is limited. There is nothing more pleasing to me then the smell of a new book, the pages to fresh and the material utterly Imaginary.
Oh and I have a super sister, and three lovely nieces.
I don’t see a place here for leaving my email. But Im going to leave it here anyway, as i play by the rules.
    laavventura@yahoo.it

    Happy Travels.

  50. I would love to win too. :D
I don’t have a sister, but I AM a sister, so that counts right?

  53. Ahhh Imaginary Girls looks SO amazing. I’m very excited for June 14th (and for Hourglass, which also comes out then).
    I don’t have a sister. I’m a sad only child :P

  54. I remember when I saw Imaginary Girls via Penguin Catalog before it was officially used as the original cover. I liked that cover so much, heh. Still do. Even freaked out and tweeted that it was on librarything via giveaway. I do have a sister actually. 2 years older than me. *nods* I also have a younger sister, who is five and means a lot to me. A lot of people gush about the younger sister, and I don’t mind because I do a lot of gushing as well. Not to mention name calling and telling her that her jokes are really lame, but that is another story. Even if I don’t win, I will make sure no matter what, that I will get a copy of Imaginary Girls. I shall even sell my soul for it!

  55. I want to read your book! It sounds amazing and the cover is awesome! Unfortunately I don’t have a sister. But does it count if I have a sister in a fraternity I’ve joined? If so, then I have a few! :P
