Lately I’m afraid of opportunities. Reluctant, really, to put myself out there—again.
Pros:
- “You never know unless you try.”
- “Third (fourth? fifth?) time’s a charm.”
- What could it hurt? (See Cons.)
Cons:
- It could really, really hurt.
My problem is I get my hopes up. Sometimes I think I’m better off without thinking so much. I need to relax.
The thing about me, though, is that even with saying all this, even with being nervous, you know I’m going to do it. I always do. It’s inevitable. Do I just like the drama? Is anything worth trying for if there isn’t a chance of having your heart ripped out? (Note: Drama.)
To try, or not try?
*sigh*
It’s not really a question.
Fear + action = courage
In case this is useful: Have you ever seen “The Courage to Write”, by Ralph Keyes? (Amazon, with preview: http://www.amazon.com/Courage-Write-Writers-Transcend-Fear/dp/0805074678)
Eric Maisel’s stuff might be worth looking at, too, depending on how you roll. He’s a little more about visualization than Keyes’ “hey, it happens to lots of people.”
You’re right, it’s not a question. So does that make whatever it is more “resistence” than anything else?
No, it’s not a question. Just do it.
LK: Love that.
Erin: I actually haven’t; I’m going to pick it up. Could use a push right about now…
and ybonesy and pmousse: yes, it’s time! Scary, but true.
I feel this way all the time, it’s important to remember that just trying is half the battle. I swear I chicken out way too often.
“Is anything worth trying for if there isn’t a chance of having your heart ripped out?”
As Dr. Kelso on Scrubs said, “Nothing worth having comes easy.”
I always like telling people to ‘go straight at it.’ So: go straight at it. You can do it! And you got lots of people willing to see you through it.
Right there with you, Nova. Hearts do heal. I have faith in you. Get the hell in there!
You have to live life without regrets. And regret comes from not having tried.
You’re right, it’s not a question, because if you really want it you’re going to try. If you don’t try it’s only because you don’t want it enough, or there’s something else you want more and you’re putting all your energy into that.
Or you’re paralyzed, emotionally frozen by fear of not daring to take the opportunity.
But that’s not you, the last one. That’s someone else altogether.
