Dead Drive

I might be quiet for a while. My computer died this morning while I was starting it up to write… It’s at Tekserve, and I won’t know if the data off the hard-drive can be recovered until next week. The earliest it will be fixed and returned to me is Friday, May 9. Yes, I had another computer that died a little over a year ago and you’d think I’d be better about backing up.

My writing is on there.

Un-backed-up writing.

I am trying not to freak out.

Please think good thoughts for me.

    Yikes, good luck.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve seen quite a few hard drives salvaged when the owner though it was dead for good, so there’s definitely still hope.

Thinking good thoughts for you, and have crossed fingers and toes too. There must be something in the air, as my computer’s just died as well.

Ugh, my heart is in my stomach. Everything is crossed for full data recovery.

Ouch. I hope you get your files back.

Also, make sure you store your files online or on a disc next time!

I do back up sometimes, thankfully, and just found a cd of my writing folder from march 2008… So if tekserve can’t recover the data at least I have that. Wow it’s hard to type from an ipod!

  6. nova says:

W, what an awful coincidence. I hope yours is fixable!

  7. nell says:

Ugh, my fingers are crossed for you. Mine was dead for three months, but somehow retained everything, it is possible.

  8. courtney says:

Oh no. Sorry to read this, Nova. I’m crossing everything that can be crossed for you that the data can be recovered.

here’s hoping for the best. i understand that the geeks (said with all affection) at tekserve know what they’re doing, so you’re in good hands.

weren’t computers supposed to make our lives easier?

  10. Michele says:

I pray that the computer gods smile on you and your data. Hang in there.
